CentraCare Selects iSirona Medical Device Connectivity

St. Cloud, Minnesota-based CentraCare Health System has selected the device connectivity technology from iSirona, the company has announced.

iSirona‘s flexible software, developed in accordance with the FDA’s quality system regulation controls, quickly and accurately moves device data into the customers’ EMR. It does so by adapting to their hospital’s unique patient care devices and runs on the hardware and network infrastructure they already have.

With DeviceConX software installed on a server, they’ve taken the first step toward achieving medical device connectivity—from any device to any CIS, the company stated in a press release.

“We chose iSirona because we were impressed by the flexibility of their solution,” explained CentraCare CIO Amy Porwoll in a company press release. “It’s a software solution, so it allows us to use our existing infrastructure and doesn’t require proprietary hardware or special cabling. Best of all, it won’t require workflow changes for our clinicians, and a seamless cutover is a real advantage.”

CentraCare is a collaborative network of Central Minnesota healthcare providers and includes three hospitals, four long-term care facilities, and nearly a dozen clinics and numerous specialty care services. After moving to a new facility, the company was convinced that it was time to replace its existing device integration solution with one that was more adaptable for both current and future needs. The company can now take the iSirona solution anywhere in the hospital, so it is no longer limited.

In March 2011, the company announced that it successfully demonstrated the industry’s most flexible medical device connectivity solution at the Vision User Group conference. iSirona used its software-based integration technology to automatically upload patient vitals data from a Stryker Bed InTouch 2141 and a Fukuda Denshi DS-7300 bedside monitor. That data then was verified using iSirona’s DataAuthenticator prior to being uploaded into the Siemens Clinical Suite.
