Arcadia Healthcare Acquires Sage Technologies to Strengthen Its Full-Service Managed Care

The healthcare and insurance industries were anxiously waiting on the decision of the Supreme Court regarding King v. Burwell this week. Had the plaintiff won, millions of Americans would be without health insurance, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would be facing a tough battle in Congress. As well as providing affordable healthcare insurance, the ACA implemented regulation that mandated healthcare providers to be more efficient. This required the industry to start integrating information and communications technologies (ICT) to improve services and lower costs. In order to meet this mandate, healthcare solution providers started acquiring companies specializing in health related technologies, which is what Arcadia Healthcare Solutions did with the purchase of Sage Technologies.

Arcadia Healthcare, an Electronic Health Record (EHR) data aggregation and analytics technology company, acquired Sage Technologies, a managed services and Accountable Care Organization (ACO) implementation provider to increase its presence as a full-service managed care provider.

An ACO brings together primary care physicians, specialists, hospitals and others to work together in a collaborative environment by accepting collective accountability for the cost and quality of care delivered to their patients.

Besides ACO, what Sage brings to the table is almost two decades of outsourced managed care operations, third party claims administration, financial leadership, data analytics, and quality improvement programs. The combined solutions of both companies will give healthcare organizations an end-to-end blended technology and services capability to manage their business efficiently with value-based setting.

“Specifically, Sage brings differentiated operational expertise in supporting organizations well into this journey, and a deeply engaged client base with a strong presence in the Midwest,” said Sean Carroll, CEO, Arcadia Healthcare Solutions.

Arcadia will now be able to support physician groups with support of:

  • Formation and governance of an ACO/shared risk practice with financial, administrative, and care management leadership,
  • Integration and harmonization of EHR, claims, and operational data from all relevant parties via the Arcadia analytics platform,
  • Population health management including quality program performance management, utilization and medical expense management, and patient care management via the Arcadia Analytics platform to support efficient and high quality care, and
  • On-the-ground care and utilization managers with the expertise to use population and patient-level data to make meaningful and lasting improvements.

“The Arcadia strategy is predicated on the notion that healthcare is in an irreversible transition from volume-based to value-based care, where unlocking the value of EHR data is the key to success. In the context of this enormous change, we are on a steady search for strategic opportunities to add to our competitive offering and strengthen our company for the growth ahead,”
