Diabeto: An Innovative Way to Manage Diabetes

Diabetes is ranked seventh in leading causes of death according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Currently, the primary way to manage type 1 and type 2 live Diabetes is by closely monitoring blood glucose levels, and the only way to do so is through a glucometer.

Diabeto is here to change that.

Diabeto wanted to create a device that did more than just read blood glucose levels, it wanted to monitor how individuals manage their current condition. Funded by indegogo.com it is a “A cute accessible hardware device that wirelessly syncs Glucometer readings with your smartphone”

Its goal is to create a device that provides better insight on an individual’s lifestyle to lead to the necessary steps to live a better quality of life with diabetes. The data collected by Diabeto can be seen on either iPhone or Android devices through the mobile or website application.

How does it work? Well, first a reading is taken by the glucometer, then users insert diabetes into the glucometer, the information from the glucometer transfers information from the glucometer directly into users smart phone, then the data is available in the mobile and Web applications, as well as pebble watch and from there smartphones store the data in a secure cloud server.

The mobile app allows users to track their own condition, but using the Web application allows transparency and monitoring from parents and healthcare professionals. The product is not only simple to use, it’s simple to carry on the go—it is smaller than the palm of your hand.

With this new technology, users can easily track their moods and insulin levels along with keeping accurate BG logs. The information is automatically plotted into aesthetically pleasing graphs that can be instantly exported in PDF reports and emailed to your healthcare professional.

Diabeto is currently compatible with 25 different glucometers. It is available to for $49, and Diabeto has just stretched its goal on Indegogo to develop a protective chase for its hardware.
