Tennessee's Cumberland Medical Center Selects DataMotion Direct

Cumberland Medical Center is a regional hospital located in Crossville, Tenn., and is licensed for 182 acute-care beds and 20 skilled nursing beds. Being on the cutting-edge of many health technology trends, its over 800 employees use the Meditech 6.0 platform for electronic health records. It also takes part in the East Tennessee Health Information Network (etHIN), a community health information exchange.

So when the hospital was selecting technology for secure messaging, it reviewed its options carefully. It decided on DataMotion Direct, from an experienced health information service provider.

The technology provides secure access to critical data, and health records can be communicated privately to both patients and among medical providers. Basically, DataMotion Direct is a secure messaging service which provides transfer capabilities for healthcare communications, including secure e-mail, care summary documents and large images.

As a result, Cumberland achieved attestation for Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU2). To receive incentive payments under MU2 requirements from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, Cumberland made the decision to attest starting on April 1.

Bob Bales, CEO of DataMotion, explained in a statement that, "With DataMotion Direct seamlessly integrated with Meditech, Cumberland Medical Center was quickly able to communicate sensitive patient information securely and easily, with not only medical peers but patients as well."

"With DataMotion, we were quickly able to automate the transition of care process within the two weeks prior to the April reporting period," Darrel Whitmill, physician informatics/Meaningful Use manager at Cumberland Medical Center, added in the statement. "Working with DataMotion, etHIN and Meditech, we started the reporting process for attestation on schedule, April 1st, and already have been able to provide a better quality of care experience for our discharged patients."

DataMotion is accredited by the Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program for Health Information Services Providers, as well as the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission.

Millions of desktop, tablet, and mobile users utilize DataMotion’s cloud-based data delivery platform to transmit health information securely. It was two years ago, when DataMotion introduced DataMotion Direct. DataMotion Direct is now used by many healthcare organizations, such as providers, and for electronic health records, health information exchanges, and interface engine vendors.

DataMotion Direct meets the needs of the changing environment for health communications and record keeping.

"Exchanging information is paramount to providing the highest levels of patient care and the healthcare industry is undergoing a major transformation in sharing information electronically," Bales said.
