MyMedicalRecords From MMRGlobal Reinventing Healthcare IT in China

MMRGlobal announced today that its electronic medical records (EMR) solution, MyMedicalRecords, will be part of the Chinese government's Primary Healthcare Institutions Management Information System Construction Project.

MMRGlobal's Unis-Tonghe MMR International Health Management Service Co., Ltd., with joint venture partner Unis-Tonghe Technology (Zhengzhou) Co., Ltd., (UNIS), will start a project in both Henan and Xinjiang provinces. These provinces are home to over 100 million people.

The goal of the joint venture is to convert EMRs into personal health records (PHR). While EMRs are managed by physicians, PHRs are patient-managed. They are also Web-accessible at any time.

A PHR can literally save a patient's life. For example, in an emergency situation, keeping your PHR in an app accessible on your smartphone can allow you to quickly give vital information to first responders like the medications you're taking, current health conditions, drug allergies and doctor contact information.

The Mayo Clinic recommends adding information about major surgeries, including dates, and information about your living will or advance directive.

In addition to having this information readily accessible, you can use a PHR to track your health between doctor visits. For example, if you have discharge instructions from the hospital, you can keep these online and access them anytime. You can also upload information about measurements that you take at home, like blood pressure or blood sugar.

The joint venture will utilize the MMRGlobal Personal Health Record for the Henan government medical project. The system features two-way provider and patient connectivity. In addition, information from existing EMRs can populate directly to the patient, including lab results, test data and medication information.

MyMedicalRecords also utilizes an HL7 interface. HL7 is a non-profit organization that develops interoperability standards for healthcare informatics. HL7 standards are used around the globe.
