CSSN Introduces New Version of OCR Scanning Software

Despite backing up, managing and sending digital data on a daily basis, companies in the past still used a lot of printed materials. Business cards, checks, photos, ID cards and different types of documents all needed to be carried in paper forms. But now, scanning technology is changing all that, making the digital generation truly here, according to negativescanningnews.com, a Web site devoted to news about scanning.

Card Scanning Solutions (CSSN Inc.), a provider of image processing and optical character reader (OCR) technologies, has announced the latest version of its software, 9.50.0, which allows users to capture images from a driver's license, medical insurance card, business card, passport, and other credentials and load them into a system where they can be stored digitally (according to a press release posted at prweb.com, the Web site of the San Francisco Chronicle.

A complete OCR system includes a scanner, a recognition device, and OCR software that is integrated with the other components to store the computerized document in the computer.

CSSN's OCR engine also enables users to then take the data from these mediums and incorporate them directly into registration pages, integrating this reading technology directly into software applications, using CSSN’s Software Developer Kit (SDK),

The SDK now supports multiple browsers such as Firefox and Chrome in addition to Internet Explorer, according to the press release. “It is also compatible with Windows Server 2008 32 and 64 bit. The upgraded OCR SDK provides a wider variety of sample programming languages such as Java, Delphi, etc. CSSN's SDK is easy to integrate with and supports almost every programming language. With this version, simplex devices now have near duplex capabilities and users can simply flip cards while scanning with both the SnapShell® and ScanShell® simplex units. Most scanner drivers are digitally signed giving users the assurance that the solutions will work with their operating systems,” the press release explains the offerings.

"We listen closely to our customers and their needs and incorporate these requests into our offering. The result is a far more advanced, robust, and efficient solution than ever before,” said Yossi Zekri, president and CEO of CSSN in the press release.

The company also announced that the new California Driver Licenses, Version 9.50.0, includes new features and enhancements and that both its SnapShell® and ScanShell® units are capable of reading barcode information, the press release said, though a separate magnetic stripe reader, the Magshell® 900, is required for magnetic stripe reading and processing.  Users can also run the SDK to process raw barcode data captured using USB barcode reading guns. The new SDK works with all the CSSN, ID card scanning and medical card scanner solutions.
