Orion Health and NextGate Partner to Match Patients and Data

Orion Health and NextGate have partnered with NextGate MatchMetrix EMPI and MatchMetrix Provider Registry in the Orion Health Information Exchange (HIE) solution to deliver a complete and accurate view of a patient’s health records.

Under pressure to ensure quick and accurate correlation of patients and their health records, the agreement allows healthcare providers to now compare and link patient and provider data. Fast access to a complete Electronic Health Record that correctly matches the patient is essential to minimizing patient risk and maximizing the efficiency of healthcare delivery.

Organizations engaging in health data exchange can’t risk matching a patient with the wrong health record, according to Orion Health executives. Orion HIE technology allows healthcare organizations to safely and securely exchange data. Over 30 million patients are enrolled in the Orion HIE.

HIEs provide the capability to electronically move clinical information among disparate health care information systems while maintaining the meaning of the information being exchanged. The goal of HIEs is to facilitate access to and retrieval of clinical data to provide safer, more timely, efficient, effective, equitable, patient-centered care. HIEs are also useful to public authorities to assist in analyses of the health of the population.

NextGate’s registry products help HIEs through the Orion HIE solution. This platform for exchanging patient information between organizations and across regions enables a shared view of patient records and provides a foundation for community care and disease management solutions.

The partnership ensures accurate patient and provider record-matching, increasingly important in light of new health information exchange and accountable care initiatives.

Automating the matching process reduces the potential for error and decreases the time healthcare workers must spend searching for data, resulting in improved patient care.

The Orion HIE offers physician and patient portals, an integration engine, enterprise master patient index, a provider registry, data repository, customizable notifications, and analytical and quality reporting tools. The application helps physicians manage disease programs by automatically coordinating care tasks between multiple healthcare providers and enabling clinicians to set up care plans that are consistent with “best-practice” guidelines.

With over 17 years of experience in building and implementing master index solutions, Nextgate’s EMPI solution uses advanced intelligent matching statistical algorithms to identify, index, and resolve related patient records spread over disparate applications in different organizations. It builds a comprehensive master index of patients and links them together under an Enterprise ID. The Provider Registry creates a comprehensive master registry of all information about providers and the services they are authorized to deliver.
