Healthcare Technology and News: Meta Health Technology Facilitates Learning ICD-10 Code Set

Meta Health Technology has introduced two ICD-10 online learning tools to assist healthcare professionals in learning the ICD-10 code set that will go into effect Oct. 1, 2013.

The online learning tools are available free of charge through the company's website. These tools utilize the General Equivalency Mappings (GEMs) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Users leverage the Meta Converter to see how ICD-9 codes translate to ICD-10. The company notes that users can see how to construct the new 7-character ICD-10 procedure codes thanks to the Meta Procedure Builder, which walks them step-by-step through each section.

According to a release, the new ICD-10 code structure will require healthcare professionals to invest significant time to learning the new code set and to understanding how to apply it.

The Meta learning tools will supplement the formal training programs provided by healthcare facilities and professional associations such as AHIMA.

"We developed the ICD-10 learning tools as a convenient way for healthcare professionals to familiarize themselves with the new structure, and are very pleased with the feedback we have received so far from our clients,” said Eli Nahmias, president and CEO of Meta Health Technology. “The tools are the perfect complement to Meta's line of ICD-10-ready products, which includes eAbstract, our Web-based abstracting solution; ePhysicianQuery, our software tool that streamlines the physician query process; and eCDI, which automates the Clinical Documentation Improvement process. We look forward to helping our U.S. clients make a successful ICD-10 transition, as we did with our Canadian clients several years ago."
