Medicscan by Card Scanning Solutions, a software product from Card Scanning Solutions, announced that its Medicscan OCR system has been integrated into Henry Schein's MicroMD Version 7.1 practice management system.
Card Scanning Solutions is a provider of image processing and optical character recognition (OCR) technology. The Medicscan feature helps streamline the patient registration process by removing manual photocopying of patient ID cards.
The company recently showcased a product demonstration to show how a medical insurance card is scanned. The information from the card is populated via OCR into designated fields of a patient registration application and billing system.
Henry Schein provides technology offerings for dental, medical and veterinary professionals, including value-added practice management software and electronic health record solutions.
The OCR True Parse software from Medicscan is useful for front office staff to scan patient insurance and other ID cards with CSSN’s Snapshell ID Reader Camera System. The system populates patient data into the software’s registration screens.
Company officials say OCR True Parse software avoids the need to photocopy patient insurance cards. Medicscan increases front office efficiency while reducing human error and costs.
“Through the integration of Medicscan’s OCR True Parse technology and MicroMD’s Practice Management system, physicians now have a powerful tool that combines an award-winning PM system with a state-of-the-art image processing system,” said Yossi Zekri, president and CEO of Card Scanning Solutions, in a statement. “This system provides our customers ease of use while satisfying regulatory needs.”
Earlier last year, MedicScan showcased its products for the medical industry at the annual HIMSS conference in Atlanta, Ga., at the Georgia World Congress Center. Along with Medicscan’s OCR platform, the company also displayed the Snapshell IDR, the image processing hardware solution.
“Integrating Medicscan’s industry-leading OCR technology into MicroMD PM is a step forward in efficiency for our clients,” said Don Quackenbush, director of Product Management for MicroMD. “Accurate and efficient data collection has always been a focus of the MicroMD PM workflow, and the addition of Medicscan functions reduces the effort required by our clients to achieve this goal.”
MicroMD’s practice management system features automatic identification, medical insurance card detection, driver’s license, alternate ID and medical insurance card OCR functionality for populating data into the system. The software features windowless work/run mode. This allows users to scan the item and the software processes the data transfer without requiring any additional user input.
