Healthcare Technology and News: Aspect Supports MedcoEnergi In Deployment of Microsoft Unified Communications Solution

Aspect, a provider of software and IT solutions to apply unified communications (UC) and collaboration services, announced that MedcoEnergi, an Indonesia-based energy company, has deployed a company-wide unified communications solution architected and implemented by Aspect Professional Services.

Microsoft Lync Server 2010 platform powers the deployment, which provides a host of capabilities including instant messaging, telephony, conferencing, voicemail, and presence to more than 3,700 employees of MedcoEnergi working across Indonesia.

Before deployment, Aspect helped MedcoEnergi in deciding the right approach for seamlessly integrating unified communications capabilities into its existing environment, so that a suitable architecture topology could be developed and an appropriate voice and data network architecture could be established to support its business and technical strategies and requirements. The company also helped in the installation, configuration test and deployment of the solution, to enable MedcoEnergi in maximizing the benefits of its unified communications solution.

Apart from offering synchronous communications capabilities and presence management with enhanced support and service capabilities, the new solution integrates the communications needs of multiple offices in one centralized location, which cuts down the travel, telecommunications, and IT operating costs previously born by MedcoEnergi. With the UC platform, employees of the company are also able to establish better collaboration and communication among themselves, which provides enhanced productivity, efficiency, and overall employee satisfaction.

In the words of M. Ageng Wiryawan, business relation manager of information services for PT Medco E&P Indonesia, with a large and geographically dispersed workforce, MedcoEnergi required a scalable, easy to use solution that would empower its employees with a full range of communications and presence capabilities to maximize productivity and improve employee collaboration, apart from reducing telephony and infrastructure costs as well. Wiryawan continued that implementing this solution is a crucial first step for MedcoEnergi to embark on integrating UC into its communications infrastructure.

According to Lui Sim Hua, senior vice president for Asia Pacific & Middle East for Aspect Software, in today's economic environment, cost-cutting is essential for many companies, but cannot come at the expense of reducing employee productivity or hindering communication. Hua noted that customers like MedcoEnergi are taking advantage of Aspect's extensive Microsoft expertise to help them break down communications silos and redefine the way employees interact within and outside the company to improve collaboration, employee engagement and the bottom-line.

In April 2010, Aspect introduced a new UC solution, named Aspect Unified IP 6.6 along with an enhanced version of its Advanced List Management solution, version 3.0 SP2.
