McKesson RMS Consolidates Billing for Kern Medical Center



The revenue-related functions at Kern Medical Center will now be enhanced by McKesson Revenue Management Solutions or RMS. Professional fee billing and accounts receivable management across Kern’s clinics and physician practices will be consolidated and made simpler with McKesson’s solutions.

Kern is already using McKesson Horizon Practice Plus for billing purposes and will now leverage RMS to improve patient service, streamline their workflow and provide patients a much better overall experience.

Many systems were evaluated by Kern before finalizing on McKesson RMS with its sturdy resources. McKesson RMS’s powerful associations with payers in the California region also played an important role in the selection. 

In a release, Lisa Ohlfest, administrator of clinics and physician practices at Kern said, “McKesson already has brought tremendous value to the relationship. We get the benefit of a comprehensive billing and practice management system to help us connect all of our facilities and streamline our operations. With McKesson, we now have a partner with bench strength and expertise in the California healthcare market to help us improve our financial performance.”

Kern wanted to seamlessly connect its clinics and medical center by consolidating its billing and collections processes. The medical group with its 100 physicians and 115 residents, was also performing various billing and administrative tasks which were not necessary.

In other news from July 2011, for more than seven years, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) has relied on McKesson's Revenue Management Solutions (RMS) to help manage its growth and gain efficiencies across the revenue cycle.

RMS enables UTHealth's Physician Faculty Practice Plan (UT Physicians) to maintain its mission of providing high-quality, personalized patient care while operating in an environment of cost containment, declining reimbursements and healthcare reform.
