GammaTech Brings Out All-In-One PC for Med Cart Docking

They carry meds. Syringes. Blood pressure cuffs. And now PCs, including GammaTech’s newest All-In-One A221, which allows healthcare professionals to carry it from location to location, looking up information and docking it all on a medical cart. GammaTech Computer Corp., a manufacturer and supplier of notebook and tablet computers, has just announced its first all-in-one PC that can be connected and used on a medical cart, or anywhere a provider needs it, according to a company press release.

A particularly helpful capability is the fact that it can even be used as it’s moved.

“GammaTech is proud to bring its award-winning technology and know-how to the all-in-one market,” said Jen Chen, GammaTech president. “Among the many advanced features found in this model for healthcare are Intel’s Ivy Bridge platform, third generation i-Core CPU, and Rapid Start Technology. This large-size convertible tablet’s elegant and versatile design allows it to be moved both on medical carts and by hand, even while it is operating.”

The GammaTech All-In-One A22i includes an Intel Mobile HM7x chipset with RAID support and internal mSATA storage that supports Intel Smart Response Technology, which delivers SSD-like performance at a lower cost. Two DDR3 memory slots provide up to 8GB of memory with support for SATA 3.0.

What makes it suitable for the medical industry, the press release reports, is that the unit can be securely docked using its VESA mounting capability on medical carts. Weighing in at a little over 10 pounds, the A22i has a built-in handle that makes it easy to carry on hospital rounds. Whether docked on a cart or carried by hand, it can be used even as it is moved from spot to spot, allowing doctors, nurses, and clinicians to keep working without having to continuously shut down. It can also be used in a collapsed prone position.

The A22i comes with a touchscreen display with a high-resolution Web camera built in, and can also be outfitted for Bluetooth. Another capability ideal for the healthcare field is its ability to start within five seconds from hibernation mode.

In these days of electronic health records, ways to get access to information immediately is critical. The A22i allows healthcare professionals to use it anywhere around the hospital, but it’s often convenient for doctors and nurses to have a PC right there in front of them, on the medical cart.
