CMS Selects CDS to Host Federal Agency's Enterprise Portal

Companion Data Services (CDS), which offers secure healthcare development, managed and hosting services within a large data center complex for the federal, state medicaid and commercial markets, has been selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to host the federal agency's enterprise portal.

Officials with CDS said the CMS Enterprise Portal will provide access to CMS services electronically through portal technology.

Based on consumer demand and evolving technological capabilities and a robust security framework, CMS will provide its customers seamless and simple access to information, products and services through the CMS Enterprise Portal. "We at CDS are very excited about this award. It's an example of CMS making information accessible to a wide array of customers," Lola Jordan, president, CDS, said in a statement.

"This new task order will allow us to showcase our expertise and knowledge of health information technology hosting solutions," said Jordan. Jordan said the multiyear task order was competed under CMS' Enterprise Data Center contract.

CDS operates a large and secure healthcare data center, providing health information technology services such as claims processing, programming and outsourcing, and CMS and other government and private entities.

Last year, CDS processed almost 800 million Medicare fee-for-service claims – about 65 percent of the national total.

Earlier in July 2011, Professional Data Solutions (PDS), a Pennsylvania-based information technology firm that provides systems management to corporations, had awarded a three-year contract to Companion Data Services (CDS) for data center hosting services.

Under terms of the contract, CDS will host applications to support an inter-plan teleprocessing system that PDS manages for major health insurance plans nationwide. The system supports national programs that enable members of one insurance plan to obtain healthcare service benefits while traveling or living in another plan's service area.

The program links participating healthcare providers across the United States and abroad with the insurance companies through a single electronic network for claims processing and reimbursement.
