Philips Healthcare has
announced that its IntelliVue monitors collect, combine and cross-reference physiologic data to provide a coherent picture of patient status. And now, Philips has now obtained the
Aruba interoperability certification for these monitors operating on multi-use Aruba 802.11 wireless LANs.
The multi-use LAN networks are supposed to bring down deployment and on-going support costs considerably by sharing wireless infrastructure among different applications.
Aruba’s policy enforcement firewall will simplify the partitioning of network resources required for protective sharing of wireless infrastructure. The resources have to be divided so that each application receives the necessary bandwidth, quality of service and privacy.
Theresa Poole, Philips Healthcare’s senior project manager, commented that Aruba’s proven interoperability with Philips IntelliVue Clinical Network solutions provides the company’s mutual customers with greater flexibility in selecting the best network to meet their needs.
The main goal of Aruba’s interoperability testing program is to reduce the time required to integrate products from different manufacturers and the certification for IntelliVue monitors is intended to simplify out-of-box deployment by minimizing incompatibilities and configuration issues that might otherwise result in improper system behavior.
The interoperability certification testing included Aruba's 802.11a/b/g and 802.11n access points. Tests included inter-access point and inter-controller roaming, wireless LAN security, quality of service and Aruba’s role-based firewall protection of Philips devices.
Aruba’s Policy Enforcement Firewall provides identity-based controls to enforce security, prioritization, traffic forwarding, and performance policies for Aruba’s networking solutions. The firewall classifies on the basis of user identity, device type, location, and time of day, and provides differentiated access for different classes of users.
Aruba has claimed that its technologies can enable one commonly shared high-speed wireless LAN to support a wide variety of critical services including patient monitoring and voice call. The company’s integrated role-based firewall provides an added layer of protection against network intrusion attempts, while VLAN pooling makes the correct VLAN available to the patient monitor anywhere there is Wi-Fi coverage.
Recently France’s Arts et Metiers ParisTech
selected Aruba's systems and Aruba
released high-performance 802.11n access point.
