Nuance Speech-Enabled Radiology Solutions Power 20 of the Top 25 Connected Healthcare Facilities

Nuance Communications, a provider of voice and language solutions, announced that 20 of the Top 25 Connected Healthcare Facilities, as recognized by Health Imaging & IT magazine, use radiology solutions from Nuance.

Besides the companies listed in Health Imaging & IT magazine, leading healthcare firms are also using Nuance solutions to significantly improve their radiology workflow.  Some of them include Mercy Health Partners, Memorial Health, Ohio State University Medical Center, Sutter Health, University of New Mexico Hospital, UPMC and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

“We introduced PowerScribe | 360 Reporting as part of our radiology workflow in July,” said Richard D. White, chairman, Department of Radiology, The Ohio State University Medical Center, in a statement. “Our goals were to improve the quality of radiology reports, speed the time it takes to finalize reports and reduce the cost of medical transcription.”

“Because of our use of PowerScribe, our reports are structured and better received by the clinicians, capable of being mined for data in an efficient way, and within the year we expect to save nearly one million dollars on transcription,” White added.

Nuance is also planning several upgrades to its radiology reporting and communications platform PowerScribe | 360 Reporting. The company is strengthening its technology to address the needs of its radiology customers, which today account for more than one-third of all radiologists in the United States.

“Year after year, the RSNA conference brings together nearly 60,000 radiology professionals and enthusiasts who are committed to driving improvement to the operational aspects and most importantly to the patient care aspects of radiology,” said Janet Dillione, executive vice president and general manager of Nuance Healthcare.

Recently, Nuance announced that its Voicemail-to-Text platform is powering the new Torpedo Recado voicemail-to-text service from Vivo, a subsidiary of Telefonica and Brazil's telecom carrier. Vivo subscribers can remain connected at anytime, anywhere, with voicemail messages converted to text and sent via SMS text message to their mobile phones.
