AbacaRx Aids Patient Access to Doctors about Medical Marijuana Use

As more states debate whether to enact medical marijuana laws, AbacaRx has come up with a crowd-funding campaign for an online physician service regarding the use of medical marijuana.

AbacaRx wants to raise $100,000 via an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign, which started on June 4 and will run for 35 days.

The money will be used to complete the software and expand the medical network.

AbacaRx is believed to be the first online telemedicine service that connects patients to physicians on the use of medical marijuana. It has come up with a national service for the United States and a related app.

It appears that many patients are “uncomfortable” asking local doctors for their advice on medical marijuana use, AbacaRx explained in a statement.

"We designed the app to offer a safe and secure online platform for those to comfortably seek medical advice, ask questions, and find out if medical marijuana is right for them," Boris Drubetsky, COO of AbacaRx, said in the statement.

Patients will be able to contact doctors via computers, smartphone or tablets. Options include high definition and encrypted video for conferences. All medical records will be stored securely.

Roger Proctor, the CEO of AbacaRx, said in early June that 22 states and Washington, D.C., have legalized the use of medical marijuana. Four other states have legislation pending. Recently, Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed a medical marijuana bill into law. But New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has concerns with a current medical marijuana bill. Cuomo is opposed to the smoking of medical marijuana. Looking back, California approved the first medical marijuana law in 1996.

In Florida, the new medical marijuana law is limited in scope. A wider medical marijuana bill will be voted in a referendum in November, according to a report from The Los Angeles Times.
