Nuance Announces New Transcription Solution for Healthcare Providers

Nuance Communications has unveiled a new outsourced transcription solution for small medical clinics and ambulatory services. The service, called Clinic 360 | Transcription, enables doctors to transcribe patient records using an iOS or Android device, the telephone or a handheld digital recorder.

Clinic 360 | Transcription contains a suite of services. InSync, for example, uploads physician dictation from digital recorders to the Clinic 360 transcription servers. Using InTouch, physicians can dictate over the phone, and the Clinic 360 servers process the doctors' verbal accounts into written transcripts.

Clinic 360 | Transcription Mobile enables dictation to Clinic 360 servers from an iOS or Android device. All dictation is uploaded over ShadowLink, which establishes secure communications channels between clinics and the Clinic 360 servers.

Physicians record information about their patient appointments instead of entering the information directly into a patient's electronic health record (EHR). For example, if a physician speaks symptoms or lab values into a supported recording device, then Clinic 360 | Transcription can automatically populate discrete information into the EHR.

The transcriptions of recorded information are then integrated into the patient's EHR as well as the clinic's radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Doctors can access transcribed documents from any computer or mobile device and send documents to referring physicians.

Using the InQuiry feature, doctors can pull up transcriptions at any time to read them, edit them and sign them using their mobile devices. After processing, they can automatically fax or print the transcriptions.

Along with the debut of Clinic 360 | Transcription, Nuance is releasing Dragon Dictate Medical for Mac. The solution integrates with most Mac-based EHRs, allowing physicians to navigate through records using voice commands. Dragon Dictate Medical for Mac offers 99-percent out-of-the-box accuracy with medical vocabulary sufficient to cover 90 different specialties.

Nuance has released these solutions to expand its customer base. The company has a history of working with hospitals and health systems, but its new products will serve the needs of smaller clinics and practice-based physicians.
