Telit Wireless and CardioNet Develops Remote Monitoring Device

Telit Wireless Solutions and CardioNet, Inc. have come together to integrate the companies’ technology to bring a brand new cellular module that can help monitor patients hearts. The new device, CC864-DUAL will use Telit’s wireless technology and Carionet’s Mobile Cardiac Outpatient Telemetry to monitor arrhythmias and other cardiac issues from virtually anywhere.

The device is equipped with the same technology as a mobile phone, allowing the module to capture and transmit cardiac data whether the patient is in the ambulance, at home, or in the hospital. The device will monitor the heartbeat of a patient similar to that of EKG monitoring, analysis the data, and report the any available physician.

“By prescribing our newest MCOT device, cardiologists are able to monitor patients in a natural setting, receiving an accurate view of heart function during normal daily activities,” explained Joseph Capper, president and CEO of CardioNet. “Telit’s CC864 module allowed us to reduce the cost of our device while developing a reliable, portable solution for real-time, high-speed cardiac data transfer, keeping users safe and healthy.”

When a patient suffers from arrhythmias, it can happen at any place, at any time. Sometimes an arrhythmia (that is not severe) can stop on its own. However, if the arrhythmia (or other cardiac issue) is severe and not treated immediately patients can go into heart failure. The CC864-DUAL helps physicians monitor the heart beats for comprehensive diagnosis. Doctors are able to prescribe the device for up to 30 days in which the patients must wear the device at all times and can then see discuss with their physician the proper treatment.

“CardioNet’s MCOT is a prime example of the enormous benefit cellular technology lends to healthcare practices, enabling immediate and responsive monitoring capabilities for physicians while helping patients avoid costly hospital stays,” said Mike Ueland, senior vice president and general manager of Telit Wireless Solutions North America. “With these types of mHealth solutions, patients with chronic illnesses are now able to live their normal daily lives while experiencing premium care previously impossible outside the walls of a medical facility.”
