UHealthSolutions CTO Spoke About Predictive Identification and Analysis Technology for Healthcare Payers

UHealthSolutions, a nonprofit affiliate of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, announced that Mark Hays, chief technology officer of UHealthSolutions, presented the lunch keynote at a recent conference in Orlando, Florida on January 31, 2012. The topic was “Predicting Health Risk and Cost: The Age of The Algorithm Is Over.”

Hays explained how UHealthSolutions developed new predictive identification and analysis technology for health care payers.

UHealthSolutions, which employs more than 130 staff in its Worcester facility, launched the new predictive technology in August of 2011.

The technology garnered attention from health plans, accountable care organizations (ACOs), community health centers, third-party administrators (TPAs), pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), medical home programs, integrated delivery systems and providers.

“The significant improvement in predictive accuracy delivered by the PIDA predictive analysis system is particularly important for care and disease management programs, to optimize care and reduce costs,” said Hays in a statement.

The predictive technology assists in improving accuracy for individuals, groups and large populations. The technology is designed to support new clinical data, including electronic medical records, health information exchange and hospital information systems.

While the new technology allows users to tune forecasts to match their priorities and population, e.g. chronic conditions and risk of readmission, results can be sent to case and disease management programs. It also provides improved identification of readmission risk and disability status.

The nonprofit health care management and consulting firm recently released three new solutions for healthcare: the PIDA predictive analysis system, the Healthcare Explorer intelligence platform and the BEEs case and benefit management system.

Recently, UHealthSolutions announced the appointment of David P. Crosby as its new managing director.

In the managing director role, Crosby will as chief executive for UHealthSolutions, providing oversight for corporate functions including technology solutions, business strategy and development, as well as guidance for administration and operations.
