Healthcare Technology and News: VSP Vision Care Launches Mobile Version of vsp.com

VSP Vision Care, a not-for-profit vision benefits and services company in the United States with over 56 million members, launched the mobile version of vsp.com to allow its members to access their vision care information from anywhere.

VSP Vision Care entered into a one-year agreement with Usablenet, a technology provider for multi-channel customer engagement, to create a mobile version of vsp.com.

“Since an ever increasing number of people are using smartphones to navigate their daily lives, we decided to make it possible for our members to find a VSP network doctor and check their vision benefits there too,” said Gary Brooks, president, VSP Vision Care.

“Making this information easy to access is just one more way to make their experience with VSP even better.”

Leveraging a smartphone device, VSP members can access features including: find a doctor, check your benefits, access your vision card and browse the eyewear gallery.

Mobile members can locate the VSP network doctor leveraging GPS capabilities. They can use the click-to-call functionality to schedule their appointment. Members can view their benefits – even while seated at their doctor's office.

“By extending its core Web functionality to mobile, VSP engages with members on-the-go and allows them to easily access vision care resources and nearby doctors,” said Nick Taylor, president of Usablenet. “Powered by Usablenet's platform, VSP's mobile website supports all relevant features from the traditional website on every Web-enabled phone.”

Usablenet's technology allows companies to deploy fully functional, optimized versions of their website across multiple channels, including mobile phones, mobile applications, tablets, Facebook and other social media, and in-store kiosks, with minimal impact to the client's IT resources.

Recently, Usablenet announced that it experienced 50-100 percent increase in traffic during Christmas weekend in 2010 after analyzing its recently launched full m-commerce website in the U.K. During the holiday shopping period, Usablenet launched some of the top U.K. retailers such as ASOS.com, JD Sports, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Next Retail Limited, Tesco and more.
