Healthcare Technology and News: GTESS Obtains New SAS 70 Type II Certification for Core Operations

GTESS Corporation, a provider of health claims pre-adjudication technology and services for the healthcare industry, recently announced the obtaining of successful SAS 70 Type II certification for its core operations.

The GTESS System claims to drive automation and straight-through processing and allows healthcare payers to accelerate their initiatives to achieve lower transaction costs, improve payment accuracy and move toward real-time transaction processing.

The company reportedly underwent a rigorous external review of all its core business processes to obtain a successful SAS 70 Type II certification for its core operations.

SAS 70 is an internationally recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). SAS 70 certification allows service organizations to guarantee process integrity based upon adequate controls and safeguards used when they host or process data belonging to their customers.

GTESS primarily acts as an outsourced provider of healthcare claim processing and has been holding SAS 70 Type II certifications for its data center operations since 2004. This time, the company applied for the audit for its Technology and Business Operations, Product Development, and Engineering and Client Services.

The latest SAS 70 Type II certification was obtained by successfully demonstrating the compliance of its internal controls, processes and procedures to the SAS 70 Type II requirements. The certification establishes that GTESS' control systems are appropriately designed to achieve effective performance and that GTESS has fully implemented and satisfactorily complies with these controls and processes.

“This audit and certification confirm our ever-increasing standards in data security, technology and product management, claim handling and customer service. As a leading provider and trusted partner to health plans and payers nationally, we are committed to completing every client interaction with this level of excellence,” GTESS Chief Technology Officer, John Christopherson noted in a press release.

Earlier this year, GTESS Corporation announced the completion of the Companion Guide to assist with the transition to 5010 HIPAA data exchange standards for its healthcare payer clients. The HIPAA regulation, which mandates that U.S. healthcare payers upgrade to the more complex 5010 standard for claims data exchange with healthcare providers and networks, includes a deadline for conversation of January 2012.
