General Electric has extended its healthcare IT portfolio to mobile devices and tablet computing. The company’s portfolio of electronic medical records or EMRs for physician practices can be now remotely accessed. Centricity Advance and Centricity Practice Solution can be also accessed on the Apple iPad and iPhone. This will be demonstrated by General Electric at the Health Information Management and Systems Society or HIMSS Conference.
With the shift of GE Healthcare’s software solutions to web technologies, the application footprint will be lightened. Clinicians will be able to access critical patient data anytime, anywhere. A range of mobile devices with Internet access are being used by Centricity Advance and Centricity Practice Solution EMR customers. Patient medical records can be therefore viewed with reduced potential medical errors.
In a release, Jim Corrigan, VP and GM of GE Healthcare IT said, "GE has some of the best technologies in the world, and now we have the mobile platforms to help customers do even better things with our EMR solutions. We can make something easy to use, but the back end can be extremely powerful. The possibilities for rolling out iPad applications to the physician community are truly exciting, and we're pleased to preview those solutions at HIMSS."
Full advantage of iPad’s capabilities will be taken by the native iPad app versions of Centricity Advance and Centricity Practice Solution, and physicians who purchase Centricity Advance before March 31, 2011 will be offered a free iPad. The future Centricity Advance iPad EMR application will be also made immediately available free of cost to these customers.
In a release, Chittaranjan Mallepeddi, VP and GM of Centricity Advance business at GE Healthcare said, "By accessing Centricity Advance on the iPad, providers are able to view the most important patient information and enter clinical notes from the patient appointment room, from home, on the road – wherever makes the most sense and is most convenient."
