Healthcare Technology and News: St. Joseph Health System Opts for Allscripts Care Management

Allscripts has announced that the company’s Care Management and Homecare solutions have been selected by St. Joseph Health System to improve patient movement through their 14 hospitals.

A fully-integrated, web-based solution, Allscripts Care Management simplifies and consolidates utilization management, discharge planning, documentation integrity, audit management, quality management and risk management.

By automating and consolidating everyday tasks for SJHS's hospital case managers including utilization management, discharge planning, documentation integrity, audit management and quality management, the Allscripts Care Management solution will help ensure continuity of care.

The solution is a fully-integrated, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application. To get advantages such as billing, scheduling, and an electronic health record (EHR) in a unified, seamless electronic system, the St. Joseph Home Health Network's home health and hospice agencies across California and Texas will deploy the Allscripts Homecare solution.

“St. Joseph Health System shares our vision of ensuring that patients receive excellent care from the moment they are admitted to the hospital through discharge and continuing with post-hospital care in their own home," said Glen Tullman, CEO of Allscripts. "Our solutions help by delivering efficiencies inside the hospital and seamless connectivity outside to the critical post-acute facilities that provide the next level of care.”

SJHS nurses will use the EHR to document patient care and compare their assessments from previous visits during home visits. Also, to review and respond to electronic referrals from SJHS and other hospitals, manage other tasks involved in the intake process, and ensure they quickly capture referred patients best suited for the care they provide, SJHS's homecare agencies also will use the Allscripts Referral Management solution.

In April 2009, the company introduced its Allscripts Prenatal, which is a SaaS solution that delivers stand-alone Web-based service or EHR-integrated information and connectivity for obstetricians. This enables physicians to provide safer as well as higher quality patient care, according to company.
