AMS Introduces Laser System for Treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

The recent development in laser technology has permitted the emergence of effective surgical procedures to cure enlarged prostate. In this context, American Medical Systems, a provider of world-class devices and therapies for both male and female pelvic health, today launched its new GreenLight XPS (Xcelerated Performance System) for laser treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate.

This new GreenLight XPS is available to serve the patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. BPH is near universal in aging men, creating tremendous costs in morbidity and surgical treatment. In the last decade numerous nonsurgical minimally invasive methods have emerged for ablation of prostatic tissue.

Built upon the technology and performance of AMS' GreenLight PV and HPS laser systems, the new GreenLight XPS offers enhanced treatment efficiency with extended fiber longevity and improved coagulation capabilities over other laser therapy treatment systems. GreenLight has proven to deliver results equivalent to TURP, with lower morbidity, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays and lower overall cost.

Joe Martin, senior vice president and general manager of BPH Therapies at AMS said that GreenLight XPS provides the most compelling alternative to TURP therapies and furthers our commitment to fostering a new standard of care for treating enlarged prostate.

He added that through these advances in GreenLight system, the company is one step closer to realizing its vision of a world without TURP and its bothersome side effects. GreenLight XPS significantly improves vaporization efficiency leading to a reduction in treatment time without impacting the depth of tissue removal or coagulation.

The XPS system features FiberLife, an automatic safety feature that decreases fiber-related failures by up to 90 percent resulting in increased longevity, enabling the treatment of glands larger than 100g with a single fiber.

GreenLight XPS is the latest in AMS' portfolio of innovative, technologically advanced solutions to treat enlarged prostate. Through its commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, AMS has become the recognized technology leader in both the men's and women's pelvic health markets
