University of Pennsylvania Health System Automates Data Processing with Brainware Distiller, Ascend SmartTouch

University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) Health System has successfully established an automated data processing system through a combination of Brainwave Distiller and Ascend SmartTouch. Both human resources documents and invoicing will now be handled through the data extraction software, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming manual entry.

Director of Disbursements at UPenn Health System Stephan W. Kelly justifies his reasoning for going this rout stating,  “We selected Ascend and Brainware for their ability to create a single input channel for paper and electronic invoices, as well as substantial flexibility for routing and managing the documents to serve our needs.”

The combination of Brainware’s Distiller software along with Ascend’s SmartTouch will not only cut back on spending, but will also provide a more accurate and efficient means of capturing data. Manual data entry and paper handling tend to cause a decline in productivity, considering the lack of visibility – with everything online, important documents are easily found with a few clicks of a mouse. No need to restlessly search through filing cabinets and stacks of papers.

“Users experience a significant productivity boost through automated capture, validation, routing for approval, document management, and integration with Lawson, including drill-down capability for immediate handling of invoice queries. The result is an invoice processing routine that is both faster and more accurate, saving time and money,” said Larry Robinett, vice president of Sales at Ascend.

Bainware Distiller is more effective than similar software due to its unique ability to capture data with a template-free approach, while at the same time, possessing human-like learning characteristics. Ascend SmartTouch provides a zero tolerance method of dealing with the ever-changing rules and regulations of human resources and when combined with Distiller, the benefits are substantial.

UPenn’s Health System is among the largest in the nation – time is certainly a factor when processing large amounts of information, and they will greatly benefit from these recent implementations.
