Ways to Increase IVF Success

The inability to conceive naturally can be frustrating for both you and your partner. If you’ve already visited a fertility specialist and discussed in vitro fertilization, weighed the pros and the cons and are ready to take the next steps to try and conceive. There are varying factors that can contribute to the success rates of IVF, such as age and health. There are also different types of IVF available, so it’s important to talk to the specialist about your available options and which ones are most suited for you and your specific needs.

Take Time to Research

It helps to learn everything you can about in vitro fertilization. You’ll need to know what to expect before, during, and after the procedure to help you prepare. You also want to learn as much as you can about the fertility clinic of your choice and don’t be afraid to ask your fertility specialist questions. You’ll want to learn about their success rates, any specific challenges they may foresee with your IVF, the policy on embryo transfers, and who the doctors are that will be working with you. Make a list of questions ahead of time so you don’t end up forgetting to ask something important.

Take Care of Yourself

The process of trying to conceive naturally and failing and then undergoing IVF can be extremely stressful. You and your partner may be consumed with many thoughts, feeling, and emotions during this time. It’s normal to be stressed, but you should take time to take care of yourself. Being stressed can lead to lack of sleep and develop health conditions that may decrease your chances of getting pregnant. Find ways to relax and hobbies that may take your mind off this process. You can join support groups for those undergoing IVF treatments, so you can have a support group of people that understand exactly what you’re going through.

Acupuncture

If you get acupuncture on implantation day, you could have increased IVF success rates. One of the main reasons that acupuncture helps is that it can relax the uterus. It can also help to increase the blood flow to the uterus and prevent uterine contractions. When the blood flow to the uterus is increased, this can lead to a thicker and higher quality uterine lining, helping to increase the chances of pregnancy occurring. Small contractions after implantation can occur, but it does lessen the success rate, which is where acupuncture can help.

Avoid Alcohol, Caffeine, and Low Glycemic Index Foods

After your IVF procedure, you’ll want to pay close attention to what you put in your mouth. Some foods you should include in your diet include low-fat dairy products, legumes, whole grains, sweet potatoes, and broccoli. Avoid processed foods because they can elevate inflammation and have a negative impact on your immune system. Caffeine is also bad if you consume more than a couple of cups of coffee per day because it can harm a growing fetus if the IVF procedure works. Good fats, or monounsaturated fats, lower inflammation and can increase your fertility. These foods can include nuts, olive oil, and avocados. Limit your alcohol consumption as much as possible for the highest success rates.
