Healthcare Technology and News: CTIA: Wireless Technology Revolutionizing the Health Industry

As the healthcare industry realizes the benefits of wireless technology in its day to day operations, CTIA Wireless claims that the wireless industry is set to change the way healthcare industry works.

WLANs are said to be a cheaper alternative to provide connectivity in aging buildings. Other uses of wireless technology include accessing and updating electronic medical records (EMR) at patients' bedsides and matching bar coded patient wristbands and medication packages to physician orders. Some hospitals are using wireless badges for voice communication.

Experts believe that the latest sensor technologies can be combined with wireless technology to provide transformations in the way hospitals deliver care. Hospitals are always on the lookout for new technologies to care for the growing elderly population and to help remotely manage diabetes, prevent stroke, and treat illnesses apart from delivering care anytime, anywhere.

“There is a lot of waste and inefficiency in the health industry, and injecting wireless into the ecosystem has the potential to revolutionize health and preventive care,” said Robert Mesirow, vice president and show director for CTIA, in a release. “CTIA events are dedicated to showcasing and promoting the benefits of emerging wireless technology, and all indications point to healthcare as a fast-moving, exciting new area.”

The upcoming International CTIA Wireless show special seminar, “Health Care IT & Wireless: New Solutions During a Downturn” to be held at 11 a.m., April 2, in Room N252. This show will focus on wireless technologies as a means for greater efficiency and better ROI. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a range of experts about how wireless is impacting the healthcare industry.

The use of wireless technology in the healthcare sector is constantly on the rise. Recently, Aruba Networks, a provider of wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions announced that MultiCare Health System has deployed its AirWave Wireless Management Suite to manage the Nortel and Cisco Wi-Fi networks across its four hospitals. The AirWave Wireless Management Suite features management efficiency with better diagnostics, troubleshooting, and reporting.
