Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Receives Nearly $19,000 in Donations from e-Cycle Generated from Its Mobile Phone Recycling Campaign

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has received donations amounting to $18,901 from e-Cycle, a data security and recycling company. The company was able to make these donations based on the success of its “e-Cycle for Type 1 Diabetes” campaign held from Nov. 15 through the 23. In the campaign, for each mobile phone which was either purchased or recycled within the week, the company donated $1.

In a release, Chris Irion, said, “The entire e-Cycle team is extremely proud to present this donation to JDRF and we are excited that we were able to raise this much money in only seven days. But our contribution only scratches the surface of the potential that mobile buyback and recycling offers as viable new revenue stream for charitable organizations.”

Chris Irion, founder of the company and father of a daughter diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, said that the intention of the promotion was to increase awareness of the condition and to garner support for the twin causes of America Recycles Day (Nov. 15) and American Diabetes Month (November). He also said that he wanted to demonstrate the revenue generation potential of wireless buyback and recycling within charitable organizations.

Irion further explained that since 2005, the company has successfully raised more than $1 million which has been donated to a number of U.S. charities. The proceeds have been generated via corporate mobile buyback. He also said that this was just the beginning and that enterprises should include mobile recycling into their corporate caring strategy.

JDRF Mid-Ohio Chapter Executive Director Cathy Paessun, said, “This donation will fund life-saving research that will benefit everyone with type 1 diabetes, not only those in the Central Ohio area but across the country as well. This one-week effort demonstrates the powerful impact corporations can have in terms of raising money and awareness of the need to fund research to cure, treat, and prevent this insidious disease. The Irions know firsthand that a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes is life-changing for the entire family. We appreciate their bringing not just their personal efforts to fund a cure but putting the resources of their company behind the cause as well.”
