The Mesothelioma Victims Center announced today it has created a Mesothelioma Victims Bill Of Rights to help individuals and US Navy veterans with mesothelioma get appropriate legal representation, according to a press release at prweb.com.
Previously, the Mesothelioma Victims Center created the Mesothelioma Victims Bill of Rights, which gives mesothelioma patients, whether civilians or military, “access to the best information, resources, and helpful information,” according to the press release.
New cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in between 2,500 and 3,000 Americans each year. According to the Web site, mesothelioma is much more common in men than women, due mostly to occupational asbestos exposure at work sites, largely suspected of being a causative factor. In many cases, as mesothelioma is often diagnosed in its advanced stages, most patients live little more than a year after diagnosis.
Individuals who served in the US Navy, or as oil refinery workers, ship yard workers, employees of defense contractors, rail road workers, power plant workers, chemical industry workers, automotive repair specialists, construction workers, plumbers, demolition contractors, were all exposed to asbestos in the 1940s through 1980s, until the public learned of the dangers, according to the press release. Sadly, “one third of all US mesothelioma victims served in the United States Navy, or are US Navy Veterans, according to the press release.
Since the disease is so deadly, the Mesothelioma Victim Center tries to ensure that patients have access to attorneys well-versed in the disease and its causes. The center drafts a mesothelioma cancer treatment options report that is specifically designed for every mesothelioma patient, and “will detail the names, and contacts of the best cancer treatment options, or specific physicians that specialize in the treatment of mesothelioma cancer in the local area, or region of the mesothelioma victim.”
The main risk factor for the disease, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS), is exposure to asbestos. Most cases of mesothelioma “have been linked to asbestos in the workplace,” according to the ACS. Asbestos is a group of minerals that occur naturally as bundles of fibers.
The Mesothelioma Victim Center's Bill of Rights includes the names and specific contacts for trial lawyers experienced in representing mesothelioma patients. In the press release, the Mesothelioma Victims Center states, "There really can be a huge difference between getting a second, or third string mesothelioma personal injury attorney, and or getting the absolute best mesothelioma attorneys in the United States, when it comes to compensation. We recommend, and provide the specific contacts for the best, and the most capable mesothelioma attorneys in the US. No other group offers this vital service."
