Health Insurance Has Failed America, Self-Pay Patient Sites are the Answer

Self-pay patient sites take back billions from insurance company profits to provide better patient care

The cost of healthcare has risen so high that millions of insured people avoid the detection of a serious illness because they have no money to see a doctor. In fact, 44% Americans didn’t go see a physician last year when they were sick or injured according to a new West Health Institute/NORC at the University of Chicago national poll. Forty percent say they skipped a recommended medical test or treatment in the last 12 months due to cost.

Three quarters of Americans say that our country doesn’t get good value for what we spend on healthcare and the situation is becoming tragic.

The common belief is insurance is healthcare… It is not. In fact, it keeps millions of people from catching chronic life-threatening illnesses like cancer and diabetes early.

After paying most of their disposable income on health insurance, over half of Americans say they received a medical bill they thought was covered by insurance or where the amount they owed was higher than expected, and more than a quarter say they had a medical bill turned over to a collection agency in the past 12 months.

Fifty-three percent of respondents say they have had a least one of the following situations occur because of healthcare costs in the last year:

  • 36 percent report depleting their savings
  • 32 percent say they racked up credit card debt
  • 30 percent believe they had to decide between paying medical bills and basic necessities
  • 41 percent report they couldn’t save any money because of their spending on healthcare.

Dr. Pedram Hendizadeh, founder of UMA Health, said, “As a practicing doctor, I found many patients in my office were being hurt by insurance.” He continued, “Self-pay patient sites are the answer to a system where billions of dollars are diverted from healthcare to insurance company profits.”

UMA Health is New York’s direct-pay medical site; The only self-pay patient-site listing doctors and procedures which pays patients $100 to sign up and also gives them 5% back.
