BetterDoctor First to Integrate Medicare's Provider and Payment Data

The healthcare industry is wrought with so many problems, solving what ails it will take a combined effort from the public and private sector.  While the public side can implement innovative policies, private organizations can get rid of legacy systems and introduce new technology that can improve operations across the board. This will not solve the problems right away, but each subsequent development will eventually make the system as whole much better. One of the biggest problems in the industry is finding the right doctor along with payment information, and BetterDoctor, a healthcare app, looks to be the first to do that.

According to BetterDoctor, it is the first health app to integrate Medicare provider and payment data along with helping consumers find the right doctor with relevant experience.

First, the application gives users the ability to search Medicare procedure and pricing data at the doctor level. This means it is now possible to review the procedures a doctor has conducted in a particular year based on their Medicare claims. Second, customers will be able to see the referral data from other doctors. Being able to see how many doctors recommend the services of a particular physician goes a long way in determining their capability. A doctor that gets recommended by a 100 other doctors should definitely instill confidence.

"We have worked tirelessly for three years to expose this data and give patients the transparency they deserve," said CEO and co-founder Ari Tulla.

The company has searched and screened almost all of the doctors and dentist in the country to simplify the process of finding and booking a doctor in every region around the country. This has resulted in more than 10 million Americans finding a physician of their choice in the past 18 months.

All a user has to do is select the type of doctor they are looking for, pick the insurance plan and see the list of verified doctors that come up on the app in a mobile device or the web on a computer. BetterDoctor has spent the last two years running background checks, verifying medical licenses and analyzing thousands of data sources of more than 1,000,000 doctors in order to give them a rating. According to the company, only fewer than 20 percent of all doctors nationwide receive the BetterDoctor Rating.

This type of transparency gives consumers another layer of information which they can use to make informed decisions on one of the most important parts of their life. With this type of information readily available to consumers, it encourages the industry to improve patient care, safety and pricing, because individuals will be able to shop for the qualities that are more important to them.
