TigerText Releases TigerConnect API for Healthcare Industry Developers

TigerText delivers HIPAA-compliant text messaging capability within a medical facility. The company has now opened its TigerConnect API to developers to facilitate texting between providers.

For example, a lab could utilize TigerConnect to text important test results to a physician at a local or remote hospital. Sending a text message means saving time lost when lab technicians have to track doctors down by phone.

Legacy systems and answering service software can integrate with the TigerConnect API. Physicians can use TigerConnect to query a patient’s electronic medical record (EMR), to find out a patient’s assigned room or which doctor is on call at a given time.

“As more organizations recognize the potential of secure real-time messaging and trends such as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) emerge, we believe secure messaging will play a critical role in driving faster response times and improvements in organizational accountability through the use of TigerText’s ‘read notifications’ capability,” said Brad Brooks, president and cofounder of TigerText.

“With our large and growing healthcare customer base, we have seen first-hand how much instant communication can improve care coordination and drive real productivity.”

A physician can start the day by logging into TigerText and switching his or her status from “Do Not Disturb” to “On Call.” Any backlogged text messages will be pushed to the home screen.

If an emergency room patient needs a diagnosis, for instance, an X-ray, CT scan or other image can be sent to the remote physician’s smartphone for evaluation through TigerText, before the physician even arrives at the hospital.

If the physician decides that surgery is warranted, he or she can form a new group consisting of other on-call doctors who can then communicate together about the patient. Notifications like “Delivered” and “Read” let doctors and nurses know whether their colleagues have received and viewed their text messages.

Doctors can send text messages to find out which other physicians are on-call for the day. They can also text pharmacies to prepare after-care prescriptions for their patients.

Message recipients do not have to use the TigerText app to still receive text messages from the platform.

TigerText enables doctors to stay connected through multiple devices. It also integrates with other platforms like Dropbox and AMiON.
