What do you think of when you hear the word cloud? Soft fluffy puffs in the sky? Mounds of mashed potatoes? Heaven? You’re not alone. But what if now what they bring to mind is no boundaries between you and the healthcare you need, even if it’s from a specialist across the state?
If you live in Indiana, you’re in luck. The Indiana Health Information Exchange, Inc. (IHIE), together with SeeMyRadiology.com, a cloud-based medical imaging platform, will now make it possible (and easier) for Indiana physicians and hospitals to get access to and share radiology images with the launch of ImageZone.
ImageZone is a cloud-based medical image sharing platform that allows physicians to review, share and collaborate on radiology images electronically, securely and confidentially, rather than on hard copy films and CDs, which can be lost or unreadable. Images that can be accessed and shared include, patient X-rays, mammograms, MRIs, ultrasounds and CT scans, all in real time.
ImageZone is powered by SeeMyRadiology.com’s cloud computing platform, which conforms to all HIPAA compliance standards, and is equipped with sophisticated encryption and compression technology allowing secure image sharing, routing and viewing via a single online community. The imaging solution will be offered in Indiana exclusively through IHIE.
“Giving providers timely access to accurate and diagnostic-quality medical images can make an immediate impact on patient health, particularly in urgent care situations when doctors may not have time to re-image a patient,” said Dr. Joshua Nelson, chief medical officer for IHIE, in a press release. “We are pleased to be working with SeeMyRadiology.com to provide this service to hospitals and medical specialty groups throughout Indiana because it will make a positive difference in how treatment is delivered.”
ImageZone is particularly important when it comes to transferring trauma patients - a situation that frequently requires healthcare providers from rural and specially-equipped facilities to quickly exchange medical images. ImageZone enables providers to share images digitally from any PC or mobile device with an Internet connection and its digital sharing platform will ensure that receiving physicians images immediately and securely, enabling them to administer life-saving treatment more quickly.
The use of cloud computing in healthcare is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, but it is thought that manufacturers may turn their attention more towards opportunities in India and China than the UK and U.S., due to the recession. In Indiana, thanks to ImageZone, that is not the case.
