A phone company and an insurance company have decided to join.
No, we didn’t misspeak; Assurance Wireless and OmniCare Health Plan, Inc. thought it was a good idea to form a collaborative relationship providing additional services to all customers. The two companies have decided to create a wireless phone plan for low-income customers, allowing OmniCare to keep an open line of communication with its patients.
The idea is to have Assurance Wireless give OmniCare patients a free cell phone with 250 free minutes of wireless voice service to eligible patients, which will allow them to book appointments with doctors, complete follow up calls, check in with their physicians about recent tests and help with preventative care.
OmniCare members who take advantage of this new service will have additional benefits, according to a press release.
“Our members need to have access to their healthcare providers at all times,” said Beverly Allen, CEO for OmniCare Health Plan. “With this partnership, we can provide unlimited “free” calls to their primary care provider’s offer and to our plan. This will eliminate one of the barriers our members experience in obtaining quality health care services.”
Gary Carter, manager for National Partnerships for Assurance Wireless, said one of the most important forms of communication these days is wireless communication – especially in an emergency.
“Phone service is essential in nearly every household in the country and even more so when you factor in the need for emergency services,” said Carter. “This partnership will allow us to reach more Michigan residents who are eligible for our program while providing a means for OmniCare to promote better healthcare among its members.”
Assurance Wireless will also add on services to members that are willing to pay an additional fee. Users can pay for additional minutes, texting, international calling and more, at a lower, competitive rate. Users will also have unlimited minutes when dialing 911 and free caller ID.
Assurance Wireless allows users to go on its Web site to determine their eligibility for the new low-income plan. If a user is ineligible, Assurance Wireless offers other low-cost plans such as payLo, which provides plans for as little as $20 a month.
The new wireless services are available through either Assurance Wireless or OmniCare Health Plan.
