Austin, TX is known for its educational access to the arts and its eclectic population of writers, musicians, high-tech and blue collar workers – all happily in the center of the state.
Now it will have a brand-new software engineering and innovation center, according to a press release, allowing healthcare clinicians and consumers to make better-informed healthcare diagnostic, treatment and purchasing decisions through cloud-based decision-making applications.
Lumeris, a provider of healthcare technology, has chosen the city for its new software engineering and innovation center. Its technologies and business practices connect and move physicians, patients, hospitals and health plans into "accountable delivery systems,” or Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), part of healthcare reform.
ACOs are small groups of medical professionals, jointly responsible for measurable results whose collective mission is to drive down costs of healthcare.
At its new center, Lumeris will build on its Accountable Delivery System Platform (ADSP), which provides cloud-based performance management, predictive analytics and point-of-care decision tools to physicians and healthcare organizations.
Lumeris has immediate requirements for 100 software engineers, project managers and consultants and major expansion plans in 2013 and beyond, according to the source, with skills in developing and deploying mobile and Web-based applications in the cloud across multiple computing platforms and cutting edge social networking techniques.
A recent study found that cloud-based technologies are an absolute necessity in today's data-driven, fast-paced health environment. Cloud computing allows users to store and manage data on the Internet.
"Healthcare is a $2.6 trillion industry that is now embracing cutting-edge information technologies to improve quality and drive down costs,” said John Doerr, a partner at Kleiner Perkins, one of the company’s investors. “Our country's economic future and health demands we succeed with this mission. We spend more than any other country in the world, but our life expectancy barely makes the Top 50. We can do better. The enormous talent pool in Austin makes it a great place to fuel Lumeris' growth and innovation."
