OnRamp Attempts to Address HIPAA Violations with Secure Hosting

With the move to digitize medical records comes the increasing risk of privacy violations. Texas-based hosting provider OnRamp is attempting to deal with the rise in Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) with secure and private hosting solutions.

“In the past two years, 92 percent of all healthcare institutions have reported experiencing a data breach of some kind,” OnRamp Founder Chad Kissinger said. Kissinger said that most of the problems with HIPAA compliance were related to e-PHI, or Electronic Protected Health Information.

An example of a HIPAA violation is a case of a doctor in Pennsylvania giving his patient’s medical records to a “concierge” medical network without their permission. The doctor has since been fired for his actions.

Another incident involved the theft of a health care provider’s laptop with sensitive information.

“When we look at what options exist for companies in getting help from Data Center partners,” he said, “we found that most folks in our industry aren’t actually doing all that much.”

Kissinger said OnRamp has created an in-depth, flexible 3-Step HIPAA Risk Management to aid customers in building HIPAA-compliant solution. “We are much more than just the siloed data center component of the plan for which you are ultimately responsible. We are your partner in ensuring that you’re HIPAA compliant,” Kissenger said.

The hosting company offers SSAE16 SOC II certification, PCI and HIPAA compliance audits.

“OnRamp’s state-of-the-art data center is designed to the highest levels of security, redundancy and reliability,” a statement by the company said. “OnRamp customers use the company’s highly flexible data center services in a variety of ways to provide for the protection of their e-PHI. Backed by Full7Layer Support from a team of experienced, on-site engineers, customers that choose OnRamp benefit from the company’s ability to eliminate the seams or gaps in protection when providers offer only parts of the solution.”
