Pioneer Valley Dental Launches Alternative Sleep Apnea Treatment

Pioneer Valley Dental recently announced the introduction of innovative dental devices that will benefit individuals suffering from sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is generally treated by using Continuous Positive Airflow Pressure or CPAP machines. The new latest devices from Pioneer Valley Dental will now offer a better solution.

CPAP machines are similar to a mask and ensure that the breathing passages are kept open during sleep by giving the user a steady flow of air. Air passages can now be kept open using Pioneer Valley’s dental devices, thereby ensuring a healthier and more relaxing sleep for patients suffering from moderate sleep apnea.

In a release, Dr. R. Taylor World, a dentist at Pioneer Valley Dental said, “Many people out there don’t know that there are dental devices available today that can help treat sleep apnea. You don’t have to go right to the CPAP machine if you are diagnosed with this sleep disorder. Most of these devices are acrylic and fit right inside the mouth, much like a mouth guard would.”

He added, “There are also devices that fit around your head and chin, which aim to adjust the position of your lower jaw. Both of these types of devices allow you to open your airway by bringing your lower jaw or tongue forward while you’re sleeping.”

Patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea and complex sleep apnea are often deprived of sleep due to the breathing irregularities caused while sleeping. Noisy and constant snoring, extended breaks in breathing, choking, grunting or breathlessness during sleep, disturbed sleep, headaches, absentmindedness, grumpiness, sleeplessness and waking up with a sore mouth or throat are some of the typical symptoms of sleep apnea.

Apart from the general repercussions of sleep apnea like daytime drowsiness, sluggish impulses and reduced concentration, patients are prone to more precarious health troubles like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and weight gain.

Dr. World said, “These dental devices are used to effectively treat mild to moderate sleep apnea. There can be side effects when using these types of dental devices including soreness of the mouth or jaw, excess saliva, nausea and damage or permanent change in positioning of the jaw, teeth and mouth.”
