Harrisonburg-based Rockingham Memorial Hospital (RMH) recently deployed Amcom’s encrypted smartphone messaging, Web-based directory/on-call scheduling, and emergency notification solutions, to improve staff workflows and patient safety.
The hospital contact center will initially make use of Amcom’s call recording solution to improve call center quality, monitor compliance and evaluate operator training needs.
In addition, the hospital staff will be at ease using Amcom Mobile Connect on their smartphones, which enables them to have a centralized source of contact and scheduling details.
Amcom Mobile Connect will give RMH staff a method of sending and receiving encrypted, critical communications via a variety of devices. These include Cisco wireless IP phones, as well as iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android smartphones.
Officials at RMH said that all the communications will be logged in an audit trail and guarded with important security elements to help ensure HIPAA and HITECH Act compliance. These include a password-protected inbox and ability for IT to remotely wipe all messages from a lost or stolen device.
“We’ve worked hard to leverage technology to make our facility environmentally and operationally efficient,” said Michael Rozmus, vice president of Information Services at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. “We want to further extend the capabilities of our technical infrastructure to ensure our staff can work even more efficiently. The fusion of Amcom Software and our deployed Cisco solutions will enable us to improve the workflows that matter most to patients and staff.”
In addition, the hospital staff can easily update on-call schedules in real time, improving the timeliness and accuracy of the contact database, using the Web portal powered by Amcom.
“We continue to see hospitals of all sizes leveraging their Cisco platforms in concert with Amcom solutions—with great success,” said Chris Heim, president of Amcom Software. “We look forward to our in-depth work with RMH to use our smartphone messaging and other solutions in ways that will bring out the best communication patterns for staff and the best outcomes for patients.”
