The Universal Clinical Platform or UCP3 has been selected by the University of Rochester Medical Center or URMC as its new vendor neutral archive solution. URMC's existing PACS archives will be replaced by UCP3. An enterprise foundation for future on-premise and cloud-based clinical content management will be provided.
An announcement in this regard has been made by Acuo Technologies, the top company in high-performance software and services for intelligent medical image lifecycle management and data migration.
Acuo's partner, Mainline Information Systems sold the total solution to URMC. The complete infrastructure solution comprising of IBM servers and Storwize V7000 Unified Storage has been architected by Mainline. Mainline will also implement the solution.
Better access to all imaging data will be provided to URMC by UCP3. URMC will be also provided a comprehensive solution for facility, partner and physician affiliation. URMC’s investment in existing PACS technology and storage assets will be preserved by UCP3. An easier and more economical path for replacement of these systems will be also provided by UCP3.
In a release, Jeff Timbrook, CEO of Acuo said, “We believe the strategy of implementing the VNA prior to installing a replacement PACS is the most sensible way to ensure a rapid shut down of the old PACS and shortening the training and first use of the new PACS. This saves money, time and reduces the load on the already stretched resources in IT and the clinical departments.”
According to Timbrook, Acuo's vision of the next generation of image management systems is shared by URMC. Delivering superior patient care has been the focus of these systems. These systems are also instrumental in reducing costs throughout the enterprise.
Jerry Powell, CIO of URMC said, “URMC partnered with Acuo Technologies after a thorough evaluation of the top VNA middleware suppliers. It became clear that Acuo's level of expertise with this type of technology was extensive based on the effort of the Acuo team, working with URMC's team, to develop a solution, not just to sell a product.”
According to Powell, URMC is able to deploy technology as per the strategic needs with the flexible Acuo UCP3 offering.
In other news, in an effort to create a cloud storage system to house medical images for healthcare providers, Global Net Access (GNAX), a leading healthcare technology service provider, recently inked a partnership with Acuo Technologies.
