CGI Awarded with New Contract from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has selected CGI Federal Inc. (CGI), a wholly-owned U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group Inc., to develop and implement comparison tool for health consumers, cites a press release.

According to sources, a two-year contract agreement worth $8.9 million was signed between the two companies. Under the terms of the agreement, CGI will design, develop and implement the CMS Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight's (CCIIO) Rate and Benefits Information System (RBIS).

The RBIS collects rate and benefits data from health insurance providers. The information will be made available on the Department of Health and Human Services' Healthcare.gov website, through RBIS.

With this initiative, consumers will have the resources to make appropriate and affordable health and health insurance-related decisions. In addition, consumers will be able to review benefit, cost sharing, and basic price comparison information for the health plans that are locally available to them.

Rich Martin, VP, CGI, said in a statement, "RBIS is critical to empowering citizens with healthcare decision-making tools and central to CMS's mission of ensuring effective, up-to-date health care coverage and promoting quality care for consumers."

Cheryl Campbell, senior VP, CGI, said in a statement, "CGI and CMS have a strong partnership that supports legislative mandates, enables healthcare consumer empowerment, and enhances interactions between the government and the health plan community."

Recently, CGI was also awarded a contract to develop and operate a cloud-based case and content management platform by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Under the terms of this contract, CGI will plan, design, configure, implement, operate, administer, and maintain a cloud computing-based enterprise case and content management (ECCM) platform for DOL.

In addition, as reported by HealthTechZone, CGI has also been granted the Authority to Operate (ATO) on the U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) government-wide, multi-vendor US$76 million Infrastructure as a Service Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA), in August.

Also, the CGI Group Inc. was also awarded a new contract extension recently with Ministry of Health in British Columbia to provide IT support on over 100 critical applications used by health professionals, health administrators and patients.
