Gemalto Now Part of GSMA Pan-African mHealth Initiative


Digital security solution specialist Gemalto has offered its support to the GSMA1 pan-African mHealth Initiative (PAMI), a mobile ecosystem designed to help maternal and child health and nutrition in sub-Saharan Africa.

Gemalto officials said that they are looking forward to contribute its digital security know-how to the United Nations Every Women Every Child Global Strategy program called, mHealth and the Global Nutrition for Growth Compact.

The main intention of this program is to streamline the relationships between patients and health stakeholders to deliver required nutritional and health advice via mobile phones.These projects will cater to the needs of over 15 million pregnant women and mothers with children under five years old, using a variety of communications products, solutions and infrastructures .

Gemalto will use its advanced SmartMessage interactive messaging solution to introduce mHealth and nutrition services to the multitudes. Also, the company will make use of its current relationships with mobile operators across the region to promote these services.

Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia are the countries involved in the first part of the initiative starting from September 2014, and in the future countries including Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania will be touched up on in early 2015.

"There can surely be no clearer illustration of the potential of mobile solutions to fundamentally change the expectations and outcomes of millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa."
