MMRGlobal Announces Availability of MyMedicalRecords PHR Kit through Retailers

Health information technology that allows a meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs) has evolved in order to support the HITECH Act, which is associated with the electronic data interchange (EDI) and transmission of health information. The act was written to comply with HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that requires the establishment of national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers. An entity can gain access to EHRs and may disclose PHI (Protected Health Information) to facilitate treatment, payment, or health care operations for patients in a hospital or under the care of a particular health care provider.

Traditionally, EHRs have been compiled and maintained by health care providers; in recent times, however, personal health records (PHR) maintained by patients themselves have been developed. In fact, such a service is offered by MyMedicalRecords, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of MMRGlobal, Inc., that provides secure online storage to upload one’s own medical record “[using] an integrated telecommunications platform that does not rely on any specific electronic medical record (EMR) system to populate a user's account,” explains MMRGlobal on its website. The company also explains that MyMedicalRecords is built on proprietary, patented technologies that allow users to access their medical records anytime, from anywhere in the world, over the Internet via a secure Web-based portal.

The MMR company’s agreements with retailers, will allow the sale of the necessary kit starting this quarter through e-tailers and retailers (for online and offline shopping) to more than 30 million expected customers nationwide. The agreement also includes advertising campaigns and millions of dollars in retailer co-op advertising funds.

“MMR also announced the appointment of Compass Express as a Manufacturer's Representative for selected accounts. Compass currently sells connected health and wellness…,” disclosed a Yahoo! Finance post yesterday. The article confirms that the “PHR Kit going on sale in Drug Chains, Etailers and Retailers nationwide.” According to Frank Finn, Managing Partner at Compass, the Compass takes a “hands-on approach in helping [their] supplier partners determine the best course of action … which enables [them] to take a great product like MyMedicalRecords and mold it into a meaningful retail program." In essence, Compass is onboard to drive the MyMedicalRecords PHR service.

Robert H. Lorsch, MMRGlobal Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, believes that having a Personal Health Record is an important part of anyone’s preparation for medical emergencies and disasters. He also mentions that “starting in 2014 under the HITECH Act, eligible providers need to offer at least 50 percent of their patient’s online access to their personal health information such as through a PHR."

The PHR kit allows one to gain control of their MyMedicalRecords account in a safe and secure fashion; patients are able to retrieve information rapidly from a password protected MyEsafeDepositBox that stores medical contents in one convenient location.

Overall, MMR provides a secure, easy-to-use multilingual PHR kit. “[It] includes everything an individual needs to ‘Quick Start’ and launch a MyMedicalRecords Personal Health Record account for up to ten family members, including pets, and contains emergency wallet cards, emergency stickers, and notification stickers specifically designed to request medical records from healthcare professionals,” the post affirms.
