For the elderly, living independently can be difficult. No matter how much they would like to take care of themselves and ease the burden on their families, safety often makes it unrealistic for them to live on their own, or for them to be able to get out of the house on their own. Recognizing this, Tunstall Americas and Numera have teamed up to provide a solution that leverages Tunstall’s focus on independent living technologies and Numera’s focus on mHealth. Numera offers a mobile personal emergency response system (mPERS) that provides help with one touch, whether out-and-about or at home. Now, Tunstall Americas will be a distribution partner.
Brad Waugh, president and CEO of Tunstall Americas, is enthusiastic about the partnership. He says that the value of this partnership with Numera “underscores our commitment to provide our customers with the resources necessary to live as independent and active a life as possible.” With Numera’s product integrated into Tunstall’s solutions, Waugh says, their customers will be able to “securely venture outside of their homes knowing that help is only a touch away.

Tim Smokoff, the CEO of Numera, is equally enthusiastic about what this collaboration will mean for Tunstall customers, noting that they will be able to enjoy “new freedom and a more independent way of life.” Smokoff says that the solution is cellular-enabled, and it is designed to provide its users with personal emergency response services both inside and outside of the home.
Other mHealth solutions may also help seniors to live more independent lifestyles. For example, doctors offering virtual consultations for minor ailments reduce doctors’ visits, allowing seniors to see a doctor from the safety and comfort of their home, without having to enlist a family member to take them to the doctor. mHealth is also reducing the cost of healthcare, which may help seniors on a budget be more financially independent.
