Eco Sound Medical Services to Distribute Fall-Safe Hip Protector

If you are or have been the caretaker of an elderly family member, the fragility of age has long been apparent to you. However, with new technology designed specifically to protect the health of older folks, this fragility might not be such a cause for fear anymore.

Medical Protection Technologies, a provider of medical devices made for both protection and comfort, has recently paired with Eco Sound Medical Services for the distribution of their Fall-Safe Hip Protector. Eco Sound Medical Services distributes healthcare supplies with a special focus on the needs of those in long-term care, assisted living or residential communities, and the Fall-Safe Hip Protector aims to assist that demographic.

The protector is designed as an undergarment with padding on either side to prevent hip fractures in the case of a fall. However, this padding is unique in that it is constructed from D3O shock absorbing material. D3O is soft and flexible in its natural state – that is, when the wearer is going about typical daily activities – but becomes rigid upon the impact of a fall; it is already widely used in industries such as the military, law enforcement and extreme sports. Whereas other hip protectors on the market might be rigid and uncomfortable at all times, or may not offer sufficient consistent protection, the Fall-Safe Hip Protector technology provides protection when necessary, but comfort otherwise.

D. Stephen Robins, M.D., CEO of Medical Protection Technologies, said Fall-Safe Hip Protector pads provide “unmatched effectiveness, durability, comfort and low profile – all keys to successful hip protector program implementation.”

As many as one in five hip fracture patients die within a year of the injury occurring, and many others are left with significant long-term impairment. But with the technology of the Fall-Safe Hip Protector, and now with increased distribution through Eco Sound Medical Services, the negative impact of hip fractures may be lessened among our elderly loved ones.
