Polycom Announces New Telemedicine Cart

The Polycom RealPresence Practitioner Cart 8000 is here. This ergonomic telemedicine cart is available for U.S. government agencies, through EX America, Inc.

With the RealPresence Practitioner Cart, government agencies and healthcare providers can get their patents expert care quickly and affordably, even if the patients are located far away. It uses HD video and audio to have patients and on-site caregivers communicate with medical professionals, even in locations that lack high-speed Internet.

This is part of Polycom’s full set of solutions designed to help medical experts and personnel speak with those who need them, no matter where they are. It uses the Polycom HDX 8000 video system and Polycom EagleEye HD camera, providing clear images on both ends of the call. Sound is made clear and natural with the Polycom StereoSurround and Polycom Music Mode technology, so both audio and video are crisp.

Of course, the cart satisfies the FDA Class I Medical Device Data Systems requirement and the HDX 8000 codec engine that it uses is certified by the Department of Defense Unified Capabilities Approved Product List.

“As one of the largest healthcare providers in the world, the U.S. government is accelerating the adoption of telemedicine as it seeks to deliver quality care to citizens, the military and veterans around the world without the complexity and cost of transport to large medical centers, or the complicated logistics and significant time drain of sending specialists into the field,” says Ron Emerson, Polycom’s global director of healthcare. “With the Polycom RealPresence Practitioner Cart and the RealPresence Platform, healthcare providers can reach patients around the world at lower costs, faster, with an enterprise-grade solution that ties together virtually any type of video collaboration device, from practitioner carts to tablets and PCs.”

There are a variety of useful features included in the Practitioner Cart 8000, including mobile device integration and AES encryption for securing and protecting patient data. It’s available on the GS-34F-0511T GSA vehicle through EC America, Inc., so agencies and healthcare providers will be able to start taking advantage of the great features it provides soon. With it, medical experts can reach their patients faster than ever, saving time and lives.
