UK-Based Hospedia Acquires Extramed

UK-based Hospedia has acquired Extramed – a patient flow and bed management provider – for an undisclosed amount.

In announcing the deal, Hospedia claims healthcare providers can save millions of dollars from the acquisition.

Hospedia will offer Extramed's Patient Flow management system at 150 UK hospitals and new hospitals worldwide.

Hospedia provides media, information, clinical support software and infrastructure at beds for as many as 10 million patients a year, the company said.

“Our infrastructure is already installed in over 150 UK hospitals and will continue to grow rapidly as we expand internationally,” Hospedia CEO, Tim Weil said in a press release. “Combining our platform, software, expertise and reach with Extramed's software, innovation and creativity will not only open up potential savings of $230 million a year for our existing sites but also an untold number of hours in time saved for nurses and clinical staff worldwide.”

Extramed is owned by Scottish investment firms, Sigma Capital Group and Barwell. Hospedia provides patient feedback, electronic meal-ordering and access to clinical systems.

By using Extramed's Patient Flow Management system for emergency and inpatient care, hospitals can improve clinical coding, care management and scheduling of discharge. In addition, Extramed managing director, Patrick Kelly, stated,“We are already able to integrate with virtually any existing IT system and enabling access to these systems via Hospedia's bedside platform allows us to deliver a far wider and better service to both patients and healthcare staff. This means that healthcare providers will be able to significantly reduce costs and give staff more valuable time to spend delivering the highest quality care."
