NextGen Intros Electronic Dental Record Certified as Meeting 'Meaningful Use'

NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, LLC, a provider of healthcare information systems and connectivity solutions, today announced that the newest version of its Electronic Dental Record (EDR) has been certified as an ONC-ATCB Complete EHR by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT).

NextGen EDR version 4.2 offers dentists software to automate all clinical and financial processes. It complies with all clinical quality measures for eligible providers, the press release reports. The additional software NextGen EDR version 4.2 relied upon to demonstrate compliance includes NextGen Ambulatory EHR, v5.6 SP1.

My husband, a dentist, avoided anything having to do with computers or software for most of his life. But out of sheer frustration, he finally gave in and it has made life so much easier. Now, instead of having to search through the miles of papers on his desk for a patient folder, he simply clicks away. (Of course, he had to hire someone to help when the system breaks down, or he has to add something new, but that’s another story!)

NextGen Ambulatory EHR version 5.6 SP1 was also certified as an ONC-ATCB Complete EHR in 2010 and it, too, complies with all clinical quality measures for eligible providers.

"We view this ONC-ATCB certification of NextGen EDR an essential benchmark for performance that should be used by clinical professionals to evaluate the quality of the software they use,” said Donn Neufeld executive vice president and general manager of the QSI Dental Division, in the press release. “As constraints on dentists' time become more prevalent, our dental clients are turning to technology-driven solutions that can increase practice efficiencies and allow them to focus on delivering quality care to their patients.”

The certification program validates that EHRs are capable of meeting the 2011/2012 criteria to support meaningful use as required by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and qualifies eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The press release states that the ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certification program certifies that complete EHRs meet all of the 2011/2012 criteria and EHR Modules meet one or more of the criteria approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) for either eligible provider or hospital technology.

"CCHIT is pleased to be testing and certifying products enabling companies to offer these products to providers who wish to purchase and implement certified EHR technology and achieve meaningful use in time for the 2011-2012 incentives," said Karen M. Bell, M.D., M.S.S., Chair, CCHIT.
