Arcturus Releases System Solutions for Networked Audio Devices

Developer of enablement products for Voice over IP, digital audio and industrial embedded devices, Arcturus Networks Inc., made an announcement Tuesday which marked the availability of new system solutions developed with three key vertical markets in mind: transportation, healthcare and building systems. These solutions are specifically intended for equipment manufacturers of nurse call systems, school intercoms, fire/safety notification, building access control or mass-transit passenger/vehicle communications.

The business model bundles hardware, software, support and services into one package — which includes toolkits that specifically address audio intelligibility recommendations made by standards bodies, a feature touted by Arcturus Networks.

David Steele, product manager for Arcturus Networks, said of the feature, "Organizations including NEMA and NFPA recognize that audio communication is key to improving a range of products from evacuation systems to devices that will help our aging population remain independent. Our system-solutions combine class-leading intelligibility tools with intrinsic supervision, making it possible for applications like nurse call equipment to handle the supervised monitoring of patient rooms using a combination of PC central stations and mobile agents such as iPads."

These new systems solutions build on a decade of experience and commitment of delivering quality core technology to equipment manufacturers. Most importantly, the business model allows manufacturers to work directly with Arcturus, freeing up customers’ time and resources. Additionally, Arcturus can provide essential tools and specialized integration.

A key aspect of these services is a Device Virtualization Service, a machine-to-machine (M2M) protocol which abstracts the operation and supervision of an embedded device into an IP-based protocol. This provides a consistent interface for central operation, work flow interaction and overall system supervision. This Device Virtualization Service is capable of running on a number of devices, including iOS devices — iPad, iPhone — and Android devices.

Arcturus’ new system solutions are available immediately to qualified customers; a basic system solution package goes for $7,500 and includes access to optional components.

Arcturus Networks is no stranger to bundled solutions for wired or wireless digital voice solutions as in April 2011, the company teamed up with Encore Software and Redpine Signals to produce a highly optimized system-level solution available for Freescale Semiconductor's MCF5301x voice processor family.
