PerspecSys Solution Keeps Health Plan Data Safe in Cloud

PerspecSys Inc., a supplier of enterprise cloud data protection solutions, announced today it will provide its cloud data protection gateway to Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) to ensure sensitive data remains under the insurer’s control at all times.

The solution includes PerspecSys’ PRS server and Oracle’s CRM On-Demand adapter, according to the source. The PerspecSys solution protects IEHP data in the cloud when using Oracle CRM On-Demand.

While cloud computing has many advantages, it can also be accessed by unauthorized users if not encrypted properly. Maikel Mardjan adds that other problems include “loss of control, unstable cost structure, potentially decreased business flexibility and integration problems.”

Inland Empire Health Plan provides managed health services to individuals and families, and is on its way to serve up to one million California residents by 2014, the press release reported.

As a unit with both government and healthcare requirements, IEHP is in a position where customer management and data security are critical, as is the need to meet regulatory requirements of the new healthcare reform law, including HIPAA.

“We designed the PerspecSys Cloud Data Protection gateway specifically with organizations like IEHP in mind,” said David Canellos, CEO of PerspecSys. “In highly regulated industries like healthcare, keeping sensitive patient information out of the cloud and within an organization’s control is an important step towards maintaining compliance. But leveraging the cost and efficiency benefits of the cloud is also critical to remaining competitive.”

The solution secures sensitive information through encryption, making data undecipherable when processed or stored in the cloud, allowing IEHP customers and employees to have access to the data while screening out any unauthorized users in the cloud.
