Iron Mountain Assists in Medical Industry, Offering Low Cost Imagery Archiving

In an effort to lower its storage costs and increase quality patient care, The Texas Regional Medical Center has collaborated with Iron Mountain Incorporated to manage its CT scans, MRIs, X-rays and other diagnostic imagery volume. The Dallas-based for-profit hospital will implement Iron Mountain’s vender neutral archive (VNA) and cloud storage solutions in an effort to provide caregivers better access to images and to reduce its overall medical data storage costs. As most for-profit hospitals are struggling to save money and improve patient care, cloud technology investments like this offer the ability solve current and future budget needs while providing more interactive care for patients.

As the massive growth of medical data brings the challenge of strained storage and management capacity, hospitals all over the country are struggling to keep important older records of past patients, which is why, Rob McDonald, CIO of Texas Regional Medical Center was very enthusiastic about the new partnership:

“When we started looking for a technology solution for our medical imaging data, we had a specific agenda: Choose a partner capable of growing with us and handling our storage, access, compliance and data retention needs. Iron Mountain fits perfectly as a partner with the capability and expertise to help us bridge the gap between now and the future. Their solution solves our storage and compliance needs, while ensuring we have the most cost-effective and efficient solution that frees up our staff to focus on patient care.”

Iron Mountain is a leading information technology management service that assists organizations in different industries, including the automotive and law fields. As companies have been seeking cheaper information management services, Iron Mountain Inc. enables customers to protect and better use their information-regardless of format, location or lifecycle stage-so they can optimize their business and ensure proper recovery, compliance and discovery.

Cloud computing and data storage have been a staple amongst small organizations and startups over the last few years, but now and it appears even the larger industry-leading companies can utilize this newer technology. Iron Mountain and companies like it are offering the ability to store mass amounts of data at a cheaper rate. It also appears to work across multiple industries and technology platforms, and although some may still have doubts about its capabilities, it is hard to argue with the fact that it is a cheaper, more efficient alternative.
